Mailbox Monday

Mailbox Monday is hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page.

We share what books that we found in our mailboxes last week. And I am adding what I purchased. Here's what I received during the last week:

What a Monday it was, I received 5 books on Monday alone! I guess I'm making up for a rather slow week last week. I also won a few giveaways so I should be reaping those rewards this week and next. And shame on me everything is going to come in real fast after a previous over-zealous and bored-at-work month of requesting stuff & entering giveaways.. and boom they all land just when I thought I had a handle on things. (My husband just shakes his head as I walk in with more books..) But the giveaways I've entered are for reallllly awesome books so I'm happy there. You will be very proud to learn that I have requested just one from Shelf Awareness for the last week :) Oh, and maybe I should just be careful what I wish for, since I made a comment about the kids being in daycare in the last Mailbox post... kaboom.. my kids no longer go to daycare, (the toddler is a biter because he refuses to share and he bit one too many times!) the kids will stay home with Daddy since he works nights. Keep your fingers crossed that my husband doesn't go insane. I make sure to tell him that HE WANTED the son to carry on his name....

BUT without further ado, here are the newest members to my stash:

"The Illuminator" by Brenda Rickman Vantrease, (this comes before her book "The Mercy Seller" which I do have already) "It is England, in the fourteenth century, the old feudal order is starting to crack but the whim of a lord or the pleasure of a bishop can still seal nearly anyones fate. For Lady Kathryn of Blackingham Manor, a widow desperately trying to safeguard her holdings, it is a time made both sweeter and more dangerous by the arrival of Finn, a master illuminator who is lodged at Blackingham by the Church but is secretly working on a forbidden English translation of the Bible. As their hesitant friendship grows into a passionate alliance, wonderful new storyteller Brenda Rickman Vantrease brings us a glorious novel of love, treachery, art, and redemption on the eve of the Renaissance."

From a Giveaway:
"In the Shadow of the Sun King" Paperback 384 pages, Oct. 2008, isbn13: 9781595546265 by Golden Keyes Parsons; Won from http://www.kindredheartwriters.com/ Thank you very much :) "Seventeenth-century France is a dangerous time and place for a Huguenot. On Tuesday:
From Hachette Books (I requested one and got all 4, WOOHOO This is the same day I found out my son was an evil boy at daycare & my life was going to be turned upside down so I really needed the pick-me-up)

By Joanna Scott: Liberation, Everybody Loves Somebody, Tourmaline, Make Believe
I am really interested in Liberation: "As Mrs. Rundel rides a train through the landscape of suburban New Jersey, she finds her memory circling back to the terror of war she experienced 60 years earlier when she was a young girl named Adriana, growing up on the Italian isle of Elba. She remembers the sounds of battle. She remembers her childish confusion. And she remembers, as she has many times before, the soldier who came to her for refuge. But Mrs. Rundels effort to remember is threatened by the physical force of illness. Caught in the perilous divide between life and death, she is both a woman struggling to catch her breath and a 12-year-old girl struggling to survive the violence of the liberation, experiencing what will take a lifetime to understand: the everlasting innocence of first love. With the mastery and elegance that have made all of Joanna Scott's novels celebrated literary events, LIBERATION is a story of war and love and memorys redemptive power".

On Thursday I received from a Giveaway hosted by Alaine of The Queen of Happy Endings:
"Magic in The Wind" by Christine Feehan, part 1 of The Drake Sisters series, a Paranormal Romance; "Ever since Damon Wilder sought refuge in Sea Haven, he's heard the same breathless rumor pass the lips of nearly every local in the sleepy coastal town. Even the wind seems to whisper her name-a reverie so powerfully suggestive that it carries the curious Damon to Sarah's cliff-top home, and seeks to shelter him there. But Damon has not arrived alone. A killer has tracked him to Sea Haven, and into the shadows of Drake House. But Sarah has her own secrets, and danger-as well as a desire more urgent than either has ever known-is just a whisper away... "

And on Saturday from Paperbackwap: "Abundance: A Novel of Marie Antoinette" by Sena Jeter Naslund "Abundance" is an enthralling work of fiction, one that captures the details of a family reign and a time period long gone. Naslund's talent is her brilliant ability to show Marie Antoinette for who she may have been. - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette"

Edited to add:
Somewhere in there I forgot to mention: Mating Rituals of the North American WASP by Lauren Lipton for a Hatchette Group Early Birds Tour at the end of May. :)
